College of Criminal Justice Sees Growth, New Degree Additions
The College of Criminal Justice is experiencing steady growth with a new addition of online Bachelor’s of Arts/Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Homeland Security Studies and an increase in baccalaureate degrees conferred compared to other institutions in the state. In the past five years, Sam Houston State University accounted for 27% of the growth in Criminal Justice baccalaureate degrees among the 26 institutions granting them. Within ten years, the number of CJ degrees conferred state-wide increased by 47%, whereas CJ degrees conferred by SHSU increased by 73%.

Alumni Spotlight: Tiffany Reedy
The College of Criminal Justice recently welcomed alumna Tiffany Reedy as a guest speaker for one of the Spring semester Real Talk w/ CJ events. Reedy, who graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1998, is now the Manager of the Protective Services Group for the Harris County Attorney’s Office. Reedy took the opportunity to share her career and life experiences with students interested in learning more about working in child protective law.

New Undergraduate Program in Homeland Security Studies Now Accepting Applications
The College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University is introducing a new undergraduate major in the Department of Security Studies. The new online undergraduate major in Homeland Security Studies introduces students to the broad theory and mission of homeland security and some of the specialty areas that have developed to protect the public against natural and other disasters.

Together, faculty provide a well-rounded experience for graduates to help bring research into practice in their careers.

Publications list
Research is one of the cornerstones of the program at the College of Criminal Justice, with a focus on bringing research into practice in the field. Through our partnership with federal, state and local agencies, as well as private foundations, the College is making a difference in the study of crime and justice and coming up with proven solutions for success. Our studies are regularly published in peer-reviewed journals and used to develop model programs to address key issues.
